Marco Garcia, owner of the Chevrolet Corvette Z06, has never had the ideal experience with a mid-engined sports car. After taking delivery and driving the car just 82 miles, his 5.5-liter LT6 V-8 engine in the Z06 failed and Garcia was stranded on the side of the highway. After his first video related to the event garnered fans’ attention online, the GM chose to put the situation right. Garcia said the car would be repaired for free.

The Z06 debacle began on December 23rd when Garcia purchased a black-over-black Z06 from Covina Hills Chevrolet in Covina, California. Garcia paid $182,457.38 for this car, which was nearly $50,000 more in dealer markup. Following the purchase process, a dealer employee offered to drive home in his C8 Stingray, where Garcia had arrived to purchase his Z06. The two dropped off the modified Stingray at Garcia’s construction yard before jumping in the Z06 and heading back to the dealership. After the employees returned, Mr. Garcia went home. It didn’t last long until the engine emitted a cacophony of smoke and an accentuated metallic sound. Garcia ventures into town for a cell phone charge, which spells disaster for his OnStar. That continued on his second day, as the Z06 was “too new” to not show up in the OnStar warranty system.
The whole situation left a bad taste in Garcia’s mouth at first. The new owner of his Z06 was the first to point out in his now-deleted YouTube video that he ran the car out. Things changed when the GM company stepped in and got in touch with Garcia.
The automaker acknowledged the problem and gave Garcia three options. His choice was to get a full refund, have the car fixed for free, or specify his Z06 completely new to replace the faulty unit. Garcia originally bought this car to have fun and modify it, and less than a day after taking proper ownership he wasn’t ready to part with the LT6 powered car. . It took about six months to build his new Z06, and GM estimates it will take him just two months to get the parts needed to fix the car. Garcia ultimately opted for repairs. This included the Platinum Protection Plan from GM. The plan covers he 100,000 miles from bumper to bumper on the car, so you should have peace of mind when the new engine is installed. Garcia decided to remove his previous video after a conversation with GM. It is unclear whether that is a request from the automaker.
