While he only saw him start in one game, Brian Bressey has seen Cade Krabnik make-up up close all season.
Clemson’s star defensive lineman, who faced Crabnik every day in practice, believes the Tigers’ offense is doing well with the young quarterback.
“He’s a born great leader,” Brezet said after Clemson’s Orange Bowl loss. “He’s done a great job whether he’s starting or not. Just hold offense and lead.”
Klubnik spent most of the season backing up DJ Uiagalelei, but there was room for a true freshman. He played most of the second half on October 22 against Syracuse on behalf of Huiagarelai, helping the Tigers close an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to win. He also released DJ Uiagalelei for the final three series to the Tigers’ ACC championship win over North Carolina last month, a 20-of-24 pass, 2-touchdown performance marking his first career start. Won in the Orange Bowl against Tennessee.
The season finale was a mixed bag for Krabnik who made 30 of 54 passes and accounted for 371 yards offense. But he also threw his two interceptions and had some mental gaffes that reminded him of his youth.
With Wiagalerei moving to Oregon State, Clemson’s offense would now have Clubnik leading for good. Brézet said he gave Kravnik some words of encouragement “here and there” throughout the season, but left most of that advice to the attacking side of the ball.
But Bresey, heading to the NFL after three seasons with Clemson, has indicated he believes the offense is on track after seeing how Krabnik has handled it over the past year.
“He did a great job of taking it on and seemed like a veteran most of the time,” Brezet said. It was something.”
Kravnik appeared in 10 games this season, completing 697 passing yards with two touchdown passes and three picks. He also recorded 139 yards and his two runs scored.
