After missing Wednesday’s game against the Miami Heat due to a non-COVID illness, LeBron James returned to the Lakers’ lineup in a 130-114 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Friday. With his 25 points, James overtook Kareem his Abdul his Jabbar to make his 460 points close to his leader in scoring his NBA career.

Here are the race standings following Friday’s action.

James is currently averaging 28.9 points per game. If he keeps that pace, he needs 16 more games to pass his jabber. If James doesn’t miss a game in the meantime, his record will be on Feb. 7 against the Oklahoma City Thunder if the pace holds up.

That said, it may be unlikely that James will miss a game this stretch when the Lakers have a three-game schedule. The league wouldn’t mind if James played a few extra games. The Lakers will host the Milwaukee Bucks on February 9, and Golden State will visit the Warriors on February 11. Both will be broadcast on national television.

  • LeBron’s last 3 games: 25 in Atlanta, 43 in Charlotte, 47 in Atlanta
  • LeBron’s next three games. Sacramento (Jan. 7), Denver (Jan. 9) vs. Denver (Jan. 12)

“I’m looking forward to seeing that happen. I don’t think of the record as a personal achievement, but as a human achievement.” adbul jabbar said Ahead of the 2021-22 season on LeBron’s chances of breaking his record. “When one person can do what no one else has done, it means we can all try. It is a source of hope and inspiration. Since then, not only 1,400 miles, the runner has been beaten then, but the new record is 17 seconds shorter. When the record is broken, we all win. If LeBron breaks my record, I will be right there to cheer him on.”

This post will be updated after each game until LeBron becomes the all-time leading scorer.
