It’s been a busy day filled with Georgia Tech coaching news, but Yellow Jackets head coach Brent Key isn’t done yet.
After bringing back Marco Coleman from Michigan State as a defensive line coach, Keys has made some interesting moves on the defensive side of football. Georgia Tech plans to hire the former SEC and NFL coach as its new linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator, reports Kelly Quinlan of JacketsOnline.
Scherrer recently coached linebackers with the New York Giants (2020-2021), and he has been coaching for some time now. He served as defensive coordinator and linebacker coach for Tennessee (2018-2019), outside linebacker coach for Georgia (2014-2017), and defensive coordinator and defensive back coach for South Alabama (2013). Scherrer also served as Alabama’s director of player personnel under Nick Saban. He also has extensive experience as a high school coach. He played for the University of Alabama from his 1993 to 1995.
Kevin Scherrer will become Georgia Tech’s new linebacker coach and co-defensive coordinator.

What’s interesting about this move is what happens to last season’s linebacker coach Jason Semor. Semore did a great job of leading both Ace Ealy and Charlie Thomas to good seasons. It will be interesting to see if he stays with the Yellow Jackets.
