
A group of nearly 50 conservative stalwarts on Wednesday co-signed a statement calling for “changing the status quo in Washington” and voted Wednesday against minority leader Kevin McCarthy in his bid for House Speaker. of the vote that praised the 20 MPs who sank after six rounds.

The group said the House members who rejected McCarthy “published a series of reform bills aimed at democratizing the House, involving a broader legislative body in legislation, and returning accountability to the House of Representatives.” However, McCarthy rejected those proposals.
