Marial Shayok scored a career-high 31 points on 9-10 shooting as Denzel Valentine and Luka Samanic hit back-to-back 3-pointers with less than 2 minutes remaining for the Maine Celtics to win 136-132. The Rio Grande Valley Vipers in a G League game at the Portland Expo on Saturday.
After leading most of the second half, the Celtics fell behind 130-128 before 3-point shots by Valentine and Samanic.
Samanic had 22 points, Mfiondu Kabengele had 20 points, 14 rebounds and Valentine had 16 points, improving the Maine to 3-0 on the regular season schedule.
The Rio Grande Valley set the pace with Trevor Hudgins on 36 and Darius Days on 30.

NHL: The Colorado Avalanche activated forward Nathan McKinnon from the injured reserve before Saturday night’s game against Toronto.
McKinnon missed 11 games due to an upper body injury. His 26 assists tied for the league lead when he came out during the first period of a game in Philadelphia on December 5.
• Gustav Nyquist scored two short-handed goals, Jonas Colpisaro made 26 saves, and the Columbus Blue Jackets ended a seven-game losing streak with a 4-1 home victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.
Emil Bemstrom and Kirill Marchenko also scored for the Blue Jackets. Johnny Gaudreau scored two assists in his 13th assist in December, and in 2017 Artemi he tied the franchise record set by Panarin.
With Andreas Atanasiu scoring and Alex Sturrock making 34 saves, the Blackhawks won one of 12 games. It’s the Blue Jackets game on December 23rd.

Spain: Barcelona stumbled in their first game since a seven-week World Cup hiatus when they lost 1-1 to Espanyol at the Camp Nou.
After 15 out of 38 rounds, Barcelona are ahead of Real Madrid on goal difference to end the calendar year at the top of La Liga.
