Trojans Place 3rd in Kokomo Tournament

After their best start in program history, Class 4A No. 8 Center Gloves lost 51-49 to Heartbreakers hosting Kokomo in the semifinals of the Phil Cox Memorial Tournament on Friday.

Junior forward Will Spellman tallied 14 points and 3 rebounds for the Trojans, while junior guard Joey Schmitz added 14 points and 7 boards. Senior guard Marcus Ankney contributed nine points.

Center Grove (10-1) defeated former conference rivals Warren Central 47-37 in the third-place play-off, trailing Ankney’s 16 points, Spellman’s 12 points and senior guard Ethan McComb’s 9 points. This is the result. Spellman won his seven boards, a team-high.

Before Friday’s game, coach Zach Hahn’s side were the only center glove team to win their first nine games, with two 8-0 starters (1950-51 and 1987-88) and a 7-0 win. Outperformed 0 Trojans (1933-34).
