Maui County Mayor-elect Richard Bissen has announced the names of more people he hopes to lead government departments, including the person named as the chief planning officer.
In a new release this week, Bissen’s transition team outlined who they would like to be in charge of four divisions: environmental management, planning, transportation and water. All his director appointments must be confirmed by the Maui County Council.
The mayor-elect named Kathleen Aoki, the former head of the planning department, again.
For the Water Authority, Bissen chose John Stufflebean as Director and James “Kimo” Landgraf as Deputy Director. News In his release, Stufflebean said he has more than 40 years of experience working with local governments, and for 24 years has been head of the department overseeing drinking water systems, water recycling efforts, stormwater management and watershed protection. was serving. He currently works as a Maui-based consultant for Baker Tilly, a company that specializes in working with local governments.
Landgraf, on the other hand, has worked in the water industry for over 30 years, including 17 years with the Maui County Water Authority.
For the Department of Environmental Management, Bissen has selected longtime County employee Shane Agawa as the director tasked with overseeing the county’s waste management responsibilities. According to the release, Mr. Agawa previously served as deputy director of the bureau and deputy director of the water supply bureau.
Bissen has asked Mark Takamori, now head of transportation, to continue his work managing transportation for people in Maui County. He served as co-director for seven years before being hired as director in 2019, according to the release.
