
One person was killed Wednesday after a shooting at an auto parts factory in Highland Park.
The shooting at the Fauvier factory on Oakland Park Boulevard, south of the Davison Freeway, occurred after a brawl inside the factory leaked outside, WJBK-TV (Channel 2) reported early Wednesday.
Forvia spokeswoman Misty Matthews did not disclose the shooting incident or the number of employees working at the factory, but said in a statement that “[the company’s]priorities are the safety of our teams and as much as possible. It is to provide support for the
“We are working closely with local authorities as they conduct their investigations,” Matthews said.
The victim, a 40-year-old man, was sitting in his car when another man drove up and opened fire several times, the TV news station said. It also said the suspect was in custody and no other injuries were reported.
Several workers who left the factory early Wednesday morning declined to comment. One worker said she was too distraught.
Wednesday’s shootings came shortly after Forvia announced it would close its metal division on Tuesday and lay off 268 workers at the factory.

The company is moving production from the factory to another facility and plans to complete the layoffs by January 31, 2023.

Late Wednesday morning, Highland Park police searched several cars at the factory surrounded by a large black fence. declined to be interviewed by the media.
In July 2021, the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives charged a Detroit man and a former factory employee with threatening to blow up.
