Lucchini to make NHL debut Wednesday night



Houghton, Michigan – Former Michigan Tech captain Jake Lucchini will be called up by the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday to make his NHL debut against Montreal tonight. Lucchini will become the 50th former Husky to play in the NHL .Wednesday night’s game can be seen on his ESPN+ and starts at 7 p.m.

Lucchini (Trail, BC) signed a one-year NHL contract with the Ottawa Senators in July. He has scored 23 points with 7 goals and 16 assists in 24 games so far with the AHL’s Belleville Senators this season, which ranks him second on the team. British His Trail, Columbia native made his breakthrough for Belleville last season, scoring his 51 goals (20 goals, 31 assists) in 72 appearances. In his professional career, Lucchini has appeared in his 200 games, scoring 47 goals and 60 assists while he tallied 107 points.

Lucchini has competed in 164 contests and has not played in a single match during his technical career. He led all college players in this category as a senior, and he was one game short of tying the Tech record. Lucchini became the 66th player in Tech history to reach 100 points in his career, with 45 goals and 59 assists as he tallied 104 points. As a senior, he co-captained the Huskies, where he led the team with 11 goals and 15 assists with 26 points. Lucchini was named a WCHA All-Rookie on his team as a freshman and with the Huskies he won the WCHA tournament his championship twice.

Lucchini signed a one-year NHL contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins after his senior season. He played his second role in the Penguins organization at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton before being traded to Montreal for his Canadiens. He played his 36 games for Laval He Rockets before being traded to Belleville in October 2021.

The Senators will play in Detroit on Saturday and in Minnesota on Sunday.
