Firefighters fought a commercial fire Saturday night in downtown Fresno.

The fire broke out around 9:45 pm in a building next to Sam’s Auto Sales on Olive and Abbey Avenues.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control and during a subsequent search of the building, a man in his mid-30s was found in the back of the building covered in blankets, according to Fresno Fire Department Chief Brad Driscoll.

The crew was able to rescue an uninjured man. A fire alarm was set off for him twice, but it went off after the man safely left the building.

“Fortunately, we were able to find this person and get him out of the building,” he said.

It’s unclear what caused the fire, but Driscoll said the building had previously burned down twice and was “completely destroyed.”

No vehicles were damaged.
