College Football Coaching Carousel: Niumatalolo at Navy


With the college football coaching carousel continuing to spin, with the first transfer portal window officially open and early contract terms on the horizon, athletic directors across the country are readying their respective programs for the offseason. I’m trying to put it in the best possible position.

Colorado made headlines last weekend with the hiring of former Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders. Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Auburn also created large-scale hiring.

Ken Niumataroro Navy

The Navy unveiled the Niumatalolo a day after a 20-17 overtime loss to rival Army. He will not return as the team’s head coach next season. In his 16 seasons in the Navy he went 109-83, but only this season he went 4-8.

Garrett later posted a message that he would continue his role as a broadcaster.

Jeff Broom Louisville

Previous role: Purdue Head Coach, 2017-22

Brohm, who was Louisville’s quarterback from 1989 to 1993, returned home to coach the Cardinals after Scott Satterfield abruptly left to take the head coaching job in Cincinnati. This is his third head coaching job, having previously played in Western Kentucky and Purdue. The former Rebels head coach has resigned over his mistakes amid both a personal scandal and an NCAA scandal. Officially he is 76-47 in his 13 seasons as head coach of Liberty, Lambuth, Arkansas.

Luke Fickel Wisconsin

Previously: Cincinnati head coach, 2017-22

Fickel took over the Wisconsin program after six seasons as Cincinnati’s head coach, going 57-18 and helping the Bearcats to the college football playoffs last season.
