Who’s running for Republican chairman? The party leadership race is heating up


After disappointing interim results, there are several potential candidates to challenge Ronna McDaniel, who has been chairman of the Republican National Committee since 2017. He will decide who will lead the party in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

Potential candidates have already laid the groundwork for winning the votes of the 168 committee members who will choose the next chairman. Some committee members have publicly doubled down on staying in McDaniel’s leadership, who is running for a fourth straight term.

Ronna McDaniel He has been chair of the RNC since 2017 and, if re-elected to a fourth term, would be the longest-serving chairman in over a century. McDaniel was Trump’s nominee for chairman of the RNC after the 2016 presidential election, and she’s seen as a close ally of the former president, but after 2020, she’ll be her 2024 president. He suggested the RNC would remain neutral during the primary election.

Previously, she served as chairman of the Michigan Republican Party and served on the RNC’s Women’s Commission on the Michigan State Commission. She is the niece of Utah Republican Senator Mitt Romney, who helped her in the 2012 presidential election.

A McDaniel aide told Politico that more than 100 of the 168 National Committee members had pledged to support her re-election. A majority of legislators’ votes is required for a candidate to win an election.

Dillon announced her candidacy Monday night on “The Tucker Her Carlson Show” on Fox Her News. “Republicans are sick of losing and I think they need to fundamentally reshape their leadership to win,” she said.

Dillon said that under her leadership, the Republican Party would be better able to take advantage of the political restructuring taking place in the country. But they demand a populist message to speak to them, not a neoconservative message or a warmonger message, and our party base is not getting what it needs from our leadership. “I’m afraid,” she said.

Dhillon is an RNC Commissioner from California and a former board member of the American Civil Liberties Union. The conservative attorney is the founder of the Dillon Law Group and co-founder of the American Freedom Center. She is also a regular guest on Fox News.

Trump has asked Dillon’s law firm to represent him while he faces a subpoena from the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol. The company also represents many other Trump supporters, including Michael Flynn and Seb Gorka.
