Kevin Wilson, Ohio State’s offensive coordinator, has been named the next Tulsa coach, the university announced Monday night. Wilson replaces Philip Montgomery, who went 43-53 in eight seasons as Golden Hurricanes coach until he was fired in November.
Wilson, 61, is in his sixth year as offensive coordinator at Ohio State University. The No. 4 Buckeyes head into his college football playoffs, and Peach will face leaders Georgia in the bowl semifinals. He remained popular in Oklahoma State, where from 2002 he was the Sooners’ offensive coordinator until 2010. He coached two Heisman his trophy winners while in Norman, Oklahoma. Jason White in 2003 and his Sam Bradford in 2008.
Wilson coached three Heisman finalists in Ohio. Dwayne Haskins, Justin Fields, CJ Stroud.
He went 26-47 with Indiana from 2011-16 and resigned in December 2016, citing “philosophical differences.” From 1990 until his 2001, Wilson coached both Miami (Ohio) and Northwestern under the esteemed Randy His Walker.
Wilson plans to remain at Ohio State during the Buckeyes’ college football playoff run. His name also surfaced in a UNLV search.
