State Street Ballet’s The Nutcracker returns to Santa Barbara for three final performances on December 17th and 18th.
The Holiday Classic at the Granada Theater featured students from the State Street Ballet Academy performing with the State Street Ballet ensemble, trainees from the company’s professional track program, and the Opera Sun, under the direction of Brian Asher Alhadev. Accompanied by the Luis Obispo Grand Orchestra.
The role of Clara, a girl who dreams of bringing the Nutcracker to life, was cast at a matinee among Academy students. This year Olivia Pires will be dancing on Sunday at 2pm and Sofia Canard on Saturday from 2pm.
Saturday night’s performance featured State Street Ballet professional dancer Emma Matthews as Clara, who also performed on tour.
The main casting includes Nerea Barondo, Days Mendonca and Marika Kobayashi as Sugar Plum Fairy, along with Cavaliers’ Harold Mendez, Hernan Montenegro and Kaito Yamamoto. Sergey Domrachev as Drosselmeyer, Saori Yamashita and Elizaveta Domracheva as The Snow Queen.
Music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Choreography by Rodney Gustafsson, with additional choreography by Gary Mackenzie, Marina Furyagina, Cecily MacDougall, Megan Phillip and Chauncey Parsons. Costume design by A. Christina Giannini, Nicole Thompson and Mary Etta Lang. Set design by Daniel Nyiri and Yuriy Samodurov. Mask and puppet design by Robert Joyce.
Tickets are available at the Granada Theater box office or online at granadasb.org. Prices range from $38 to $121, and in some price ranges he has a $26 discount for kids 12 and under. Student discounts can be purchased in person or by calling the Box Office at 805-899 – 2222.
