SALT LAKE CITY — A young girl was killed Wednesday in an auto-pedestrian collision at 2100 East and 1300 South in Salt Lake City, police said.
Salt Lake Police said the girl was run over by a Nissan pickup truck in a pedestrian crossing at about 3:30 p.m.

Witnesses said Winnie appeared to be walking home from school with a friend when she was hit. She said she was on the pavement.
“I was right behind the truck that ran over her,” she said. “I saw a girl get beaten up, so I put the car in the chevron and started running. I was actually the first one to stand up next to her. Her friend was there… until she was kind.” She took a deep breath and I think she died.”
The woman, who provided only her first name, Brooklen, said she was on the phone with a 911 operator and was instructed to run the girl over. She and another bystander said paramedics arrived about six minutes later. Start chest compressions until
Police said Winnie was taken to hospital but died shortly afterwards.
The truck driver, a 47-year-old man, remained at the scene after the crash and cooperated with the investigation.
Members of the community then gathered to hang a ribbon at Bonneville Elementary School.
The crash marks the 24th road fatality in Salt Lake City this year, according to police.
Police closed 2100 East in both directions while investigating the accident.
