A fire involving more than 30 vehicles at an auto auction has been deemed suspicious and is under investigation in Scott County.
Scott County Rural Fire Protection Superintendent Jeremy Perrien said he received a call around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday reporting a large fire at a copart on East Outer Road in Sikeston.
“When we arrived, we found multiple vehicles on fire,” said Perien.
According to the fire chief, the fire started in a vehicle and spread to other vehicles, affecting about 100 vehicles in a row, affecting more than 30 vehicles.
Perrien said the Scott County Rural Fire Service called in the Minor, Sikeston, and NBC Fire Districts for assistance with water supply and the fire was contained.
The crew was on site until about 7:30 am on Wednesday. No one was injured in this incident. However, the cause of the fire remained unclear as of early Thursday.
“The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Anyone who sees a vehicle or anything suspicious in the area is encouraged to contact the Scott County Sheriff’s Office,” Perien said.
