This is the season when parking is free.
In a tradition dating back to at least 2015, ERIEBank paid the City of Warren for all parking in the central business district on Thursdays and Fridays.
No need to feed the meter.
“We want people to shop locally, attend city events, and promote our community.” Community Office Manager Ashley McBride said:
“The city appreciates ERIEBank’s efforts and commitment to the community.” Warren City Police Clerk Sidney Nouffer said:
City and bank officials are asking those who use the space to limit their use to two hours.
All downtown parking meters are bagged all day Thursday and Friday. Signs serve as reminders.
Anyone using the app for parking will be notified that it is not required.
“The app shows ‘free parking’, but it’s limited to 2 hours.” Nufer said.
Parking enforcement officers walk the normal route and check the two-hour limit.
Parking is not available at the Downtown Christmas Parade and Walk area from 5-10 PM on Fridays. These areas include: Pennsylvania Avenue from Market Street to Hickory Street. Second Avenue from Liberty Street to Pennsylvania Avenue. Both Liberty Street and Hickory Street from Pennsylvania to Third Avenue.
The parking program has been a two-way token of appreciation over the years.
“We are getting customers and non-customers who stop by to say thank you and send letters and cards.” McBride said. “I’m happy to hear that our efforts have been appreciated.”
