Tornado Memorial Sculpture Unveiled at Harry M. Cornell Arts & Entertainment Complex – Newstalk KZRG

A new sculpture honoring the 161 victims of the 2011 Joplin tornado was unveiled Wednesday morning on the campus of the Harry M. Cornell Arts and Entertainment Complex.

Active Lifestyle Events, Inc., which provides active lifestyle activities to the community, such as the Joplin Memorial Run, dedicated a carving depicting the names of 161 people who lost their lives.

Audie Dennis, President of Active Lifestyle Events, Inc. said: The role played by runners in making this happen. This is a stunning work of art on the lawn of the arts and entertainment hub that will take our city into the future. ”

Dennis says it’s important to have the piece on the east side of the building, where the Joplin Memorial Run begins each spring.

Tonya Sprenkle Active Lifestyle Events, Inc. Treasurer said: We will rebuild without you, so we run to remember you. May those who pass by this statue remember it forever. ”

Active Lifestyle Events, Inc. receives and manages funds for scientific, educational, civic, athletic, patriotic, cultural, social and charitable purposes to promote active lifestyles in the Joplin community. It is a non-profit organization whose primary mission is to encourage and facilitate.
