
Houghton, Michigan – After two decisive non-conference victories over Thanksgiving weekend, Michigan Tech will enter conference with a 6-1 record to face Wisconsin Parkside on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The Huskies will also play at Purdue Northwest on Saturday, December 3rd at 2pm. - Shutting down defense, Ellie McKay’s 17 points made the difference for Michigan Tech’s women’s basketball, as they beat Minnesota Duluth 61-46 at the SDC Gymnasium on Saturday for their sixth win of the season.
- Tech limited UMD to 33% shooting and top scorer Brooke Olson (18.2 ppg) to 4 points. MTU also scored him 8 steals and 33 rebounds in a cross Great Lakes non-conference matchup.
- Isabella Lenz helped the Huskies with 14 points (6-13) and three assists, while Alex Rondolf scored 12. McKay, Lentz, Londorff, and Saradax shared the team his lead with six rebounds each.
- The Huskies shot 41% (26-63) overall and went 7-for-22 (32%) over the arc. MTU balanced the offense by scoring 24 points in the paint, and he scored 11 turnovers against UMD’s 14.
Correct Lenz
- Michigan Tech sophomore and GLIAC Freshman of the Year advocate Isabella Lenz (Prescott, Wisconsin) could be the best bench option for any team in the conference. So far, MTU’s strengths have been depth and health, with Lentz averaging 13.0 points (seconds) per game in 24.1 minutes with the Huskies.
- In two games last week, Lenz totaled 27 points, eight rebounds, two steals, two blocks and six assists. With her double-digit numbers in her five games, she shows no signs of her sophomore slump and has proven effective both in the lane and out of the arc.
- As a true freshman, Lenz made five starts for Purdue Northwest and posted a season-high 17 points.

- With a lot of the spotlight on Alex Londorf, who is averaging nearly a double-double (12 points, 9 rebounds) every night, senior Caitlin Meister has quietly returned to good form throughout seven games. I cut the start of the guard.
- Meister is averaging 8.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists.
- She scored a season-high total of 16 points in a win over Lewis, scored 15 in a win over Minnesota Cruxton, and shot 6-of-10 from the field.
- In his last game, Meister played a season-high 31 minutes for UMD and scored four points.
GLIAC Player of the Week
- Kaitlyn Zarycki led the Cardinals to a 2-0 show for the week including two performances of scoring 20 or more points.
- She was three steals behind a double-double in a 61-54 win over Walsh on day one of the Wayne State Warrior Holiday Tournament.
- Zaritzki was four assists short of a triple-double in a 72-55 victory over Carson-Newman on the final day of the tournament.
- The Niles, Michigan, senior had 13 rebounds, nine steals and a 52.6% shooting percentage (20-38) in two games.
Rangers Scout (2-4, 0-0)
- Winning or losing against the Rangers will depend on whether the team can stop 2022 GLIAC Player of the Year Alyssa Nelson (red shirt senior guard).
- With 21.8 points per game, Nelson once again leads the conference this season.
- The Rangers finished fifth in the GLIAC preseason coaches poll.
- Last season, the UWP went 15-14 overall and 12-9 in conference play.
- Fifth-year head coach Jen Connolly welcomed assistant coach Eric Gruber and alumnus assistant coach Jordan Fierst to the bench this fall.
- Nelson led the GLIAC with 20.2 points per game with an impressive .514 shooting percentage, .415 from 3-point range and .908 at the free throw line.
- Other returning performers include Maya Leideforth, Ramya Coric, Courtney Schoenbach, Patti Garasova, Kayla Bohr and Sheridan Frauger.
- After the Mavericks pulled away in the second half, the Rangers lost to No. 11 Minnesota State University in Kenosha on Saturday, 80-71.
- Nelson had 22 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists.
- Coric had 13 points, two rebounds and four assists.

- Reagan Courier leads GLIAC with 3 points (6-7).
- Tadrianna Heard leads the team and ranks third in the conference in points (20.3 ppg).
- PNW will play Northern Michigan on Thursday and host the Huskies on Saturday.
- Last season, PNW won the most wins in program history since joining Division II.
- Courtney Locke is in his fourth season as head coach.
- Returning top scorer Dash Shaw is averaging 15.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 23 assists per second in seven starts.
- Shaw averaged 14.5 points and 2.8 rebounds per game in 26 games (10 starts) last year.
- The Pride lost two games to Palm Beach Atlantic (65-52 loss) and Nova Southeastern (74-72 loss) in last weekend’s Nova Southeastern tournament.
- Shaw led the offense in the latter, scoring 21 points on 8 of 13 shots and 7 boards.
