SAN DIEGO – Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) San Diego leadership met in person offsite for the first time since January 2020 to discuss command operations in San Diego on October 26-27 . During the two days offsite, the commander met with his 100 supervisors to discuss important topics such as professional development and share information about new policies and programs.

Offsite consisted of 15 sessions ranging from telework to ‘Waypoints’, the new NAVSUP Civilian Enterprise Learning Management System. The purpose of this offsite was both to develop leadership and to consolidate the command, which was spread across a total of 11 locations.
said Andrew Benson, executive director of NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center San Diego. “As a team, it is centered around how we effectively operate on behalf of our mission partners, but more than that how we can improve our ability to provide the NAVSUP FLC San Diego team with the right tools and resources. In his opening remarks, Benson asked how many employees were attending for the first time, and more than half of the attendees raised their hands. This setup has proven essential for consolidating command leadership.
During the offsite process, supervisors participated in discussions on remote working and best practices, recruitment processes, supervisor tools, technology updates, and ongoing process review updates. Due to the many changes in the work environment during the pandemic, this offsite provided a forum for supervisors to discuss how best to navigate the transition.
Supervisors participated in conversations about new learning systems, how to get the most out of employees working from home, and were provided updates on warehouse safety regulations.
On day two, Linda Willis, Command Human Resources Officer at NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center San Diego, met with supervisors to discuss the hiring process, answer questions, and explain policy changes.
Among the topics announced were warehouse reform initiatives such as the Department of Defense-sponsored Warehouse Utilization and the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense-sponsored Navy 5G Smart Warehouse.
The goal of Warehouse Utilization is to programmatically integrate the warehouses within each service that NAVSUP FLC San Diego has selected to lead the Navy. Both the Executive Steering Committee and the Integrated Product Team come together to transfer resources and detailed projects to integrate warehouse functions, workforce, policies, financial improvement and audit readiness compliance, regional footprint, and customer support strategies Create a plan
As far as 5G smart warehouses go, each military branch underwent a 5G experiment to rapidly develop and demonstrate 5G capabilities in prototypes that sparked interest in 5G in both the Department of Defense and the commercial community.

The Navy portion is located at NAVSUP FLC San Diego as a 5G smart warehouse. The capabilities of 5G will be demonstrated by leveraging the 5G ultra-low latency network to automate inventory, move materials autonomously, and improve operational efficiency in naval depots.
