Editor’s note: Every day from now until kickoff of the first game 2022 FIFA World Cup On November 20th, we will reveal a different memory of World Cup history. The countdown from 101 continues with a spectacular solo goal from Saeed Al Owylan.
Diego Maradona wasn’t the only player to dribble his entire team and score in the World Cup. In all fairness, Saeed Al-Owylan’s incredible solo goal for Saudi Arabia at USA ’94 was beautiful in every way.
Just like Maradona’s slalom eight years ago, Al Owylan’s run and finish didn’t materialize in the knockout stage. We haven’t played against England or other former champions. But it started deeper on his own side, as he beat out another would-be defender. While Al Owylan blew the door past Belgian netminder Michel Preudoom with a ferocious shot.
The goal was meaningful too. Al He not only secured Saudi Arabia a 1–0 win for her with Owylan’s unforgettable goal, but also secured a place in the second round.
Saudi Maradona’s 70 yard dash

Al Owylan has made a Maradona impression against Belgium.
