Bulls Celebrate and Introduce 2022-23 BMO Black Owned Business Cohort

The Bulls and BMO will celebrate the 2022-23 regular season and the third year of the BMO Black Owned Business initiative at Just Don in Fulton Market.

The Bulls have partnered with BMO to launch the third season of the BMO Black Owned Business campaign. This is an initiative focused on raising awareness of Black-owned businesses across Chicago and inspiring Black entrepreneurs who are making positive change in their communities.

As part of the initiative, the Bulls will feature one business each month in-game via social media and Game Day telecasts throughout the season, detailing the story and inspiration behind each business in the words of its owner. .

On October 5th, Bulls and BMO held a tip-off event at Just Don, a retail and community gathering space owned by Bulls creative strategy and design advisor Don C. Announcing the players selected for the 2022-23 season, along with Bulls players and representatives of the Bulls and his BMO.

The evening kicked off with remarks from Don C., Bulls’ Vice President of Community Engagement, Adrian Schellenzel Currie, and President of BMO Wealth Management US Darrell Hackett. Event highlights include two panel discussions. One panel led by Bulls Director of Community Relations Erica Bauer with this season’s featured business owners and the other led by Don C with Bulls players Patrick Williams, Alex Caruso, Javonte Green and Derrick Jones. Guests will be entered into a culinary offering by Virtue Restaurant and Bar, one of the team’s 2021-22 Black-owned businesses, an assortment of beers from Funkytown Brewery, and a raffle to win prizes from each of the 2022-23 Featured Businesses. , and enjoyed signed jerseys from Bulls players and legends. .

This initiative was launched in 2020 as an extension of the Bulls’ commitment to investing in their communities. It’s one of the four pillars of his community violence prevention strategy, dedicated to improving Black-owned businesses, nonprofits, and Black civic leaders.

The Bulls’ 2022-23 BMO Black Owned Business cohort includes –

  • Manup the following: Based in Bronzeville (946 E 43rd St), Next Man Up focuses on men’s health and wellness, offering the ultimate spa experience and destination to relax and unwind. Services include haircuts, massages, manicures, pedicures, facials, waxes and more.
  • Funky Town Brewery: Funkytown Brewery owners started the business to add a black brewer’s perspective to the beer industry. Located in Logan Square (2140 N Milwaukee Ave), Funky Town was founded in 2017 by three friends of his. Through quality beers, creative labels and fresh perspectives, Funky Town offers a creative and much-needed perspective to a predominantly white industry.
  • Pup Stars: Located in the West Loop (2337 W Lake Street), PupStars is a one-stop shop for pet owners offering daycare, boarding, dog walking, grooming and training services. Its mission is to provide optimal personal care for all pets by providing a safe, clean and stimulating environment.
  • Eb and flow: Co-owned by a mother-daughter duo, Eb and Flow offers a variety of yoga classes in the Wicker Park area (2125 W North Ave). The duo welcomes individuals of all skill levels to the studio to experience the transformative power of yoga.
  • Cleo’s Southern Cuisine: Located in Bronzeville (4248 S Cottage Grove Ave), Cleo’s Southern Cuisine aims to bring sophisticated Southern cuisine to a historic district on Chicago’s south side. Cleo’s pays tribute to Chef Kristen her Ashley’s grandmother and keeps the memories alive through her amazing recipes.

This season, the Bulls added a new element to their initiative. Fans are encouraged to visit each featured business and scan the QR code there to get his $10 BMO gift card as part of the visit. After visiting at least four of her businesses, fans will be able to attend an in-game VIP experience for fans and three of her guests at her game at the Bulls’ home in April.
