A 33-year-old man was arrested last week after detectives found him taking items from an unlocked car in downtown Silver Spring, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.
Eric Delonti Feggins of no fixed address was charged with misdemeanor and loitering, theft of less than $1500, and other related offenses involving theft from a motor vehicle.
In a press release, the MCPD said detectives from the 3rd District Investigation Division parked in the 8100 block of Georgia Avenue on Friday, Sept. 30, and are conducting a follow-up investigation.
This detective observed the victim park the car and get out, leaving the car running and unlocked. Within minutes, detectives observed Feggins get into the car, search the victim’s belongings, and leave the scene. According to detectives, Feggins shouldn’t have been in the victim’s car.
A patrol officer responded, and after a short foot chase, Feggins was arrested and taken to the Third District Station for an interview, where he admitted to his actions. Several theft investigations revealed him as a suspect.
Feggins was transferred to Central Processing Unit and released on a $2,000 unsecured personal bond.
Detectives are asking the community to remove all valuables from their vehicles and not allow them to be unlocked or run unattended.
