2022 MLB Playoff Field Set With Locked Seeds: Wildcard Series Schedule & Format Explained

With the action between the playoff teams on Tuesday, October 4, coming to an end, the games on the final day of the regular season are all meaningless with regards to the playoff field. Each of the 12 teams have already been clinched heading into Tuesday, with the Braves clinching the NL East and the final two wildcard team results on either side of the bracket settling the matchup.

Here’s what it looks like.

american league

The Wild Card Series will have all three games at the same ballpark and no travel. There will also be no reseeding, so the Rays vs. Guardians winner will face the Yankees in his ALDS, while the Mariners vs. Blue Jays winner will head to Houston.

national league

As mentioned above, there is no reseeding after the first round. This is a locked bracket, so the Padres-Mets winner gets the Dodgers in his NLDS, while the Phillies-Cardinals series winner gets the defending champion Braves.

Individual game times have yet to be determined, but we do know that all four Wild Card Series will take place on Friday and Saturday, with the third leg of the Finals on Sunday if needed.
