Sports Personality of the Year takes place in Salford on 21st December

The 2022 BBC Sports Personality of the Year will take place on Wednesday 21st December at MediaCityUK in Salford.

Gaby Logan, Alex Scott, Gary Lineker and Claire Balding present the 69th edition live on BBC One.

The show celebrates 12 months of incredible sporting action, including England’s Euro 2022 victory.

The year also saw a record number of medals won by the home country at the Commonwealth Games and gold in women’s curling at the Winter Olympics.

But with three Rugby League World Cups and a Women’s Rugby World Cup, there’s still a long way to go. The men’s soccer World Cup has also yet to take place, with the final scheduled to take place three days before his awards ceremony.

Tennis player Emma Raducanu was selected 2021 Winner After ending the wait for Britain’s 44-year women’s Grand Slam singles champions with a win at the US Open.

Director of Sport Barbara Slater said: “The BBC is home to major sporting events, bringing key moments from big years to audiences across the UK.

“We are truly spoiled for choice with our nominees and can’t wait to celebrate the year’s accomplishments in December.”

Categories for 2022 include: BBC Sports Personality of the Year. World Sports Star of the Year; Helen Rollason Award; Young Sports Personality of the Year. Unsung Heroes; Coach of the Year; Team of the Year; and Lifetime Achievement Award.

Nominations for the BBC Unsung Hero Awards will open on September 30th.
