new england patriots quarterback Mac Jones The NFL Network reported Monday that he suffered a “pretty serious” ankle sprain.
While he may escape surgery, Jones is unlikely to fit the Patriots in a Week 4 road match against the Green Bay Packers.
Jones was injured in the fourth quarter of New England’s 37-26 home loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
Jones completed 786 total passing yards, two passing touchdowns, an NFL-leading five interceptions and a 76.2 quarterback rating, completing 66% of his passes in New England’s three games this season. He also ran for 37 yards and one touchdown.
If Jones misses time, veteran Brian Hoyer will likely be the team’s starting quarterback, with fourth-round draft pick Bailey Zappe as backup. Hoyer is playing three straight seasons for the Patriots, his third in the franchise.
The NFL Network reported that Jones could return sooner than expected given the medical resources at his disposal.
“[Mac] Play for Alabama. That’s where tightrope walking surgery became popular,” said Ian Rapoport. Alabama team doctor Lyle Kane created it essentially just to deal with and accelerate ankle sprains. , will also be received from one of the country’s experts.”
