CAA Soccer Recap – September 24th
It’s been a tumultuous day in CAA football as Elon and Monmouth beat a nationally ranked team in dramatic fashion. Delaware improved to his 4-0 record, New Hampshire retained his CAA lead, Richmond won the league opener, and UAbany won out of conference.
Monmouth 49, Villanova 42

Jaden Shilden rushed for 211 yards and two touchdowns with 46 seconds remaining as Monmouth (2-2, 1-1 CAA) outlasted #9 Villanova (2-2, 0-1 CAA). Recorded the game-winning 16-yard score. ), 49-42, in a game featuring an attack of 1,000 yards or more.
The two teams traded touchdowns throughout the afternoon, five of which came in the fourth quarter. Taking the lead with 14:13 left to play, the Wildcats drew to Rayjun Pringle on Conor Watkins’ 17-yard scoring strike. MU took advantage of his interception by Davis Smith with 6:21 left in his second TD for Owen Wright to put him ahead 42-35. VU tied again as Watkins stormed into the end zone from 5 yards out with 2:42 remaining, but the Hawks drove 75 yards in six plays and were capped by Silden’s winning run.Mike Reid Intercepted his VU pass in the end his zone as time expired.
Musket passed for 161 yards and three touchdowns. Da’Quan Grimes defensively made his 12 tackles on his Monmouth. Villanova had a big day on the ground from Jalen Jackson, where he had 187 yards and 28 carries for 3 TDs. Jalen Goodman made seven tackles and a forced fumble for the Wildcats defense.
Elon 35, William & Mary 31

Elon (3-1, 1-0 CAA) recovered from an 18-point halftime deficit to beat 14th– William & Mary, 35-31st. Jaren Hampton rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries, including the winning 15-yard scoring run with 1:07 remaining.
The Tribe (3-1, 0-1 CAA) built a 28-10 lead at halftime as quarterback Darius Wilson threw three scoring passes. He connected with Malakaimo (10 yards) and Kaylin Newton (75 yards) in the first quarter to put W&M ahead 14–0, and his 18-yard strike to Lachlampitz gave him the tribes lead at halftime. increased to 18.
Elon trailed 31-16 in the fourth quarter, but Hampton’s 2-yard TD run with 9:03 left made it 31-23. Phoenix’s Marcus Hillman recovered to force a fumble, and Elon came close to within 31-29 after a 1-yard DJ Moyer scoring plunge. The Tribes went 3-and-out on the next possession and Elon drove his 69 yards to score the winning score for Hamptons.
Elon quarterback Matthew McKay threw for 207 yards and a TD. Hillman contributed 8 tackles, 2.0 TFLs and a forced fumble. For W&M, Wilson threw for 252 yards and he threw 3 TDs and on the ground he added 41 yards. Marcus Burns had 10 tackles on defense.
New Hampshire 37, Towson 14

New Hampshire (3-1, 3-0 CAA) capitalized on excellent performances from offense, defense and special teams to beat Towson (2-2, 0-1 CAA) 37-14.
Dylan Laube rolled the Wildcats late in the first quarter by tying a school record with a 92-yard punt return for a TD in a 10–0 lead over UNH. The Wildcats’ offense then continued late in the 2nd quarter when Max Brosmer hit Joey on his 20-yard TD pass to Joey, who hit Corcoran, and in the opening of the 3rd quarter, he drove Heron for a 51-yard TD strike. Finding Mauriseau he made 24. -0.The Wildcats defense held Towson to 239 total yards, with Dylan Lewis recording his three quarterback sacks.
Brosmer finished with 194 yards and 3 TDs, while Laube added 114 yards rushing. Towson quarterback Tyrrell Pigrom passed for 142 yards, including his 17-yard TD pass to Robert Schwob in the third quarter. Ryan Kearney has made 11 tackles for the Tigers defense.
Richmond 51, Stony Brook 7

Reese Udinski beat Richmond (3-1, 1-0) to Stoney Brook (0-3, 0-2 CAA), 51-7.
Stoney Brook scored a 7-0 advantage on a 38-yard TD pass from Daron Bryden to Khalil Newton. But the Spiders responded quickly, with Udinski throwing scoring passes to Jasiah Williams (3 yards), Connor Debenny (7 yards), and Leroy Henry (6 and 20 yards) before he scored a UR with 5:33 remaining. Williams finished with 10 receptions for 112 yards for the Spiders. His UR defense, which held SBU to 154 total yards, earned him a pair of sacks from Marlem Louis. For the Seawolves, linebacker Lazy Dimanche recorded his 10 tackles and his 2.0 TFL.
Delaware 35, Hampton 3

Nolan Henderson passed 30-of-43 for 296 yards and had a career-high five touchdowns with eight.th-ranked Delaware (4-0, 2-0 CAA) remained unbeaten with a 35-3 win over Hamptons (3-1, 0-1 CAA).
Henderson threw touchdown passes of 15 and 8 yards to Cyric Pitts in the first quarter to give the Blue Hens a 14–0 halftime lead. UD pulled away in the third period as Henderson connected on a 36-yard scoring strike to Jordan Townsend and Pitts got his third TD grab of the night from 7 yards to make it 28-0. His 3-yard TD pass to Marcus Yarns gave Henderson his new career-high.
The Bluehens defense held Hamptons to 156 total yards, with six stops each from Liam Trainer and Johnny Buchanan. For Hampton, Malcolm Mays passed for 94 yards and Jadakis Bonds made three catches for 44 yards. DeAndre Faulk recorded his team-high 14 tackles on a Pirates defense.
UAlbany 45, Central Connecticut 26

Todd Sibley rushed for a career-best 190 yards highlighted by a 97-yard touchdown run on the opening play of the game as UAbany (1-3) took their first win of the season against Central Connecticut State. Recorded.
The Great Dane did not trail after Sibley’s opening score. Joey Carino found his zone in the end with runs of 4 and 2 yards, giving UAlbany his edge at halftime where he went 24-12. UA opened the game early in the third quarter when Joseph Greaney returned a 77-yard fumble to score. Reese Poffenberger later connected with TD passes of 22 and 6 yards to tight end Thomas Greaney to put the game away.
Poffenberger passed 2 TDs for 257 yards and Greenie recorded 6 catches for 87 yards. Linebacker Jackson Ambush recorded his team-high 14 stops at the Great Danes.
Pitt 45, Rhode Island 24

Marquez DeShields rushed for 82 yards and two first-half touchdowns, but Rhode Island (2-2) fell to 45-24 on 24.th– Ranked pits. DeShields unleashed a 63-yard scoring run in the first quarter that kept the Rams within 14-7 and added a 1-yard TD run late in the second quarter to make it 24-14 at halftime.
Kasim Hill threw for 223 yards against the Panthers, including a 15-yard TD pass to Darius Savage. The Rams’ defense was led by Jake Fyre, who contributed a career-high 13 tackles and a forced fumble.
