Accepting applications for the Working Land Business Enhancement Grant


WLEI Business Enhancement Subsidy

Vermont Department of Agriculture Food and Markets Is your business part of the agricultural and forest economy? Need funding for a planned capital project? The Working Lands Enterprise Initiative has granted Funding is provided.

Business Enhancement Grants can fund projects up to $35,000 focused on market development, R&D, infrastructure, energy, workforce training and development, and more.

Projects must be 100% (1:1) matched and can be cash or a combination of cash and physical items. Project must be completed within 12 months.

Vermont Sheep and Wool Festival

Vermont Sheep & Wool Festival

The 34th Annual Vermont Sheep & Wool Festival takes place this weekend in Tunbridge. The festival aims to showcase natural fibers and textile arts while entertaining the public and promoting small farms and textile businesses.

This year’s festival has everything from vendors and fleece shows/sales to textile arts classes, shearing demos and animal barns!

The festival begins on Saturday, October 1st at 10am and continues until October 2nd at 5pm. You can view the full schedule here.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12. No advance ticket required. Visit the Tunbridge Fairgrounds.

The Agriculture Department collects monthly data from beef producers statewide to produce reports highlighting retail and wholesale prices for beef.

If you are a consumer interested in fair priced beef, or a producer trying to set an accurate price for your product, these reports should be a helpful and up-to-date resource.

Data are collected with funding from the USDA Market News Division. Click here to access last month’s report.

Beef farmers interested in participating in this program should contact Drew Watson at andrew.watson@vermont.gov. Farms receive $15 for each monthly submission.

Five-Star Farmstays is a course designed to give you a real-life host experience with practical and helpful tips to increase your farm income.

This course includes self-paced online modules and resource material that you can keep forever. We also have live Q&A, private Facebook group cohorts, and email access to answer your questions.

The course is taught by Jen Colby, owner and farmstay host of Howling Wolf Farm in Randolph.

The course is $199 and can be paid in installments. Registration required.

This free 3-hour webinar explains how cattle vaccines work, the diseases you can prevent, and how to choose the right vaccine for your herd.

Dr. Dayna Locitzer has over 10 years of experience working on pasture-based dairies in the Northeast. She currently works as a large animal veterinarian at her Green Mountain Bovine clinic in Chesterfield, New Hampshire.
