The ‘Black Diamond’ series returns to Lane Stadium for the first time in 18 years. The Hawkeyes, who have a 2-1 record on the season, will be looking for his second straight win on Thursday night. Here are some stories fans should be watching for Tech’s primetime game against West Virginia at 7:30 PM ET on ESPN.
defense continues to shine
Lunch Pale’s defense has been impressive this season. The defensive unit held Wofford to just 38 rushing yards and 199 yards offensive. Chris MarvHe’s yet to score a single point in the first quarter of the season. Rush defense (42 ypg), he is fourth in yards per play (3.51) and fifth in allowed yards per game (202). West Virginia puts Tech to the test as they are 2nd in the Big 12, 13th in FBS (511 ypg), 3rd in the Big 12 and 13th in FBS in first downs (82 ypg).
The Black Diamond series is back
Thursday night marks the return of the Black Diamond series to Blacksburg for the first time in nearly 18 years. The last time the series was played at Lane Stadium was on October 2, 2004, when the Hokies defeated the Mountaineers by his 19–13 score. Grant Wells ride on his momentum
Wells came out of the gate with a sling against Wofford, completing the most passes in school history in the first quarter (12). %), finished the day with 314 yards and two passing touchdowns. This is his best performance for the Hawkeyes to date. He will look to further develop his performance as he faces the West’s Virginia defense, which ranks bottom of the Big 12 in passing efficiency (144.34) and his defense in the red zone (90%). .

Pry’s coaching staff is made up of many former Tech players, including an assistant head coach. JC pricesafety coach Pearson PriorauSenior Analyst Xavier Adibi and strength coach Jarrett Ferguson All had played for West Virginia at the time. Price was a defensive lineman from 1992 to 1995, recording 29 tackles, nine hurries and two sacks in four games against West Virginia. The former defensive back totaled 29 tackles, two pass breakups and two passes defended. Adivi, who was the standout linebacker from 2004 to his 2007 season, played his one time for the Mountaineers in his career (2005), racking up 10 tackles (4 solo) and his one sack was recorded. Ferguson has played RB for the Hokies since his 1998-01 West and in his four games with Virginia, he has 61 yards on the ground and he has scored two touchdowns. The Hokies hope his staff’s experience coaching will bring Black his diamond his trophy to Blacksburg.
