Men’s football handles business at both ends, Blanks St. Peters, 3-0


Baltimore – UMBC men’s soccer did the job on both ends of the field in front of 1,064 fans at Retriever Soccer Park, beating St. Peters 3-0.

Junior Alec Woblewski When Hans Nesheim and senior Ryan Becher was a goalscorer and senior goalkeeper Quantrell Jones Winning the 13th shutout in total.

All three of Retriever’s goals were scored from corner kicks.

The Retrievers posted a short two-game winless streak and improved to 5-1-1, while St. Peters fell to 1-4-1.

how it happened

  • At 12′, Jago Lotz A corner from the right was headed by Wroblewski from 12 yards on the right side of the box. A long turn crossed the goal line just inside the far left post.
  • Jones made three tremendous stops as St Peters tried to tie the score late in the first half. He denied his two attempts from close range in his 41st minute and his 43rd minute.
  • In the 54th minute, Lott took another corner kick from the right, before Wroblewski headed it in again, just outside the left post.junior midfielder William Forby Finding Nesheim to keep the ball in play, the defender converted his first career goal into traffic and inside the left post.
  • In the 70th minute, Lott played a short corner to Forbee, who tapped it. Rott then fed the ball into the box and Betcher flicked it past the hopping Peacock goalkeeper.

Note

  • Wroblewski (1g, 1a), Lott (2a) and Forby (2a) all scored multiple points at UMBC.
  • Jones is currently tied for sixth on UMBC’s all-time shutout list, alongside Robbie Mummra (’93) and Andy Martyca (’06). He earned his 24th career win, placing him fifth on the all-time win list alongside Steve King (’09).
  • UMBC beat St. Peters 21-7, scoring multiple goals for the sixth time in seven games this season.

UMBC will play at St. Joseph’s on Tuesday, September 20, and in the US East on Saturday, September 24, against UAlbany at Retriever Soccer Park.
