The War of the Triple Alliance (1864-70) pitted Paraguay against a formidable combination of more populous and better resourced neighbors: Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay. Officials from the Mexico City public prosecutor’s office leaked photos of Escamilla’s dismembered body to the press.
